September 21, 2006 Meeting Highlights

Nineteen members were present, including 3 new members (Irene Iley, Kelly Pisarcik and Diane Beamish) who we welcomed to our unit and subsequently voted in. Another new member, Sandy Higgins, was voted in but was not present. This brings us to 48 paid members; our goal is 76. Ann Daerr reminded us that the dues for 2007 are due by Dec. 31, 2006.

Post Commander Mike Conway spoke to our unit about the upgrades being made to the Post, and asked for additional suggestions from the Auxiliary. Suggestions should be forwarded to our Liason chairperson, Dot Butterfield; she will relay them back to the Commander.

We received a thank-you note from the family of Ruth Schmidt for our Auxiliary service, another from the American Legion's Child Welfare Fund for our donation, and an e-mail from Marine 1st Lieutenant Mike Lukarski, thanking us for the packages we sent to his unit in Iraq.

Awards were presented to Andrea Smith, Ashley Morgan and Raechel Popek for their participation in the Department of Ohio American Legion Auxiliary Americanism Essay contest. Our unit also received its awards for Public Relations, V.A. & R. and National Security.

Upcoming functions include the Post Steer Roast (October 21) and the Veterans Dinner Dance (November 11). In addition, Fish Fries are held the first Friday of every month. For more details on any of these functions, contact Jack Ferguson or the Post canteen.

We donated $200.00 to Wade Park to help with the veterans' comfort items and we have approximately 25 lap robes made for the veterans at Brecksville. Alexis Merriner collected $1,500.00 for the Lupus Walk on September 17.
